I can’t believe that I’m already in the third trimester of pregnancy! We’ve got about 2 1/2 months until his due date. Time is flying!
**Growth: Baby boy is measuring right on schedule. And so am I! I’ve gained 11 pounds since the beginning of this pregnancy (which, considering that I lost 8 pounds in the first trimester is great!) and my belly is measuring at exactly 28 cm.
**Movement: This little boy is going to be incredibly active. He moves all.the.time. At my Dr.’s appointment yesterday I was told that it’s time to start doing “kick counts.” Basically if I were to lay still for 2 hours, he should move 10 times in that 2 hours. Yeah, he definitely hits 10 kicks in about 8 minutes! I love it! Occasionally he will wedge himself in a position where his movements hurt me a little but most of the time it just feels awesome. It’s always reassuring to know that he’s healthy and strong and active.
**Sleep: Earlier on I struggled with insomnia pretty badly, but when we moved to Wisconsin it’s like my body got reset and went back to a perfect sleeping schedule. I do wake up to pee between 1 and 4 times per night but I always fall back to sleep easily. However, a few weeks ago I started having issues with my hips hurting while I sleep! I was not expecting that and it hasn’t been so fun. I sleep with a pillow between my legs now which seems to help for the most part. And as long as our bedroom doesn’t get too hot (we don’t have A/C in our apartment, just a window unit in the living room) I sleep pretty well. I’ve also started taking naps again almost every day because I get soooo tired in the afternoons.
**Exercise: I’m still walking almost every day, and I usually go between 3 and 5 miles but I can feel myself slowing down and as it gets hotter I have a harder time walking as far. After my walks I come home and do a prenatal yoga DVD which I think is the reason that my body has generally been feeling so good.
**Aches and pains: It depends on the day but sometimes my belly gets achy and sometimes my ribs hurt a little and sometimes my lower back hurts a bit. For the most part though I feel pretty good!
**Tests and doctor stuff: I took the gestational diabetes test last week and got the results back from that. The test really wasn’t that bad, I didn’t hate the drink like some people do. I do hate having my blood taken though so I made sure to lie down so I wouldn’t faint. I got the results back at my Dr.’s appointment yesterday and everything was perfect. My glucose was 115 which apparently is good, my iron levels were perfect so no anemia, my urine sample came back fine, my blood pressure was perfect and everything measured right on schedule. Basically this pregnancy has been very textbook which I’m SO grateful for.
**Anxieties: As we get closer to delivery I’m surprised that I’m not super nervous for the labor and delivery part. I will most likely get an epidural so I’m not afraid of the pain. I’m actually getting a little anxious about the postpartum recovery! As I read about products to get and taking care of “down there” I just really don’t even want to go through that…So here’s hoping that I have a smooth delivery with no tearing and an easy recovery!
I feel incredibly blessed with how this pregnancy is going. It makes it easy to enjoy being pregnant when there’s not much to complain about and everything is going smoothly. I’m excited for the next couple of months and especially excited to meet our sweet little boy!
