It’s official, we’re having a baby next month! I can’t believe how quickly our due date is approaching. Some days I want it to just get here already, and other days I can’t imagine having a newborn!
**General feeling: I feel pretty good most of the time although I complain about “feeling pregnant” more and more often. I have seriously had such a lucky, blessed pregnancy. I’ve missed out on a lot of the most unpleasant pregnancy symptoms like heartburn, varicose veins, etc. I do get sciatic pain in my back occasionally but a day on the couch always cures it. I had been struggling with hip pain quite a lot but now that I take epsom salt baths twice a week my hips feel totally fine!
**Food: I am pretty much hungry all.the.time. I eat something significant at least every two hours. I don’t really have very many cravings except for ice cream. Which is weird because I’m not usually a huge ice cream person, but I do constantly crave it now. I don’t eat it very often though. I do drink a lot of smoothies though so that helps. Sometimes I get a strong craving for steak or a burger which I’m sure is because we don’t eat very much red meat and I know my body needs the iron. I eat a lot of eggs, fruit, smoothies, chips and salsa, quesadillas, oatmeal, milk and cheese, almonds and chocolate chips and peanut butter and honey toast.
**Exercise: I am 100% convinced that the reason I have had such a great pregnancy is because of my efforts to stay active. It is getting significantly harder, but I still try and do a little bit every day. I only walk between 2 and 3 miles a day now and don’t do yoga as much as I was before. I’m also trying to do more gentle resistance training like squats, kegels, pelvic tilts etc. as I get closer to delivery.
**Sleep: I am sleeping great. I do get up 2-4 times a night to pee but it’s not usually a big deal. Now that my hips aren’t aching anymore I don’t sleep with a pillow between my legs which makes rolling over easier. I also discovered that it’s easier for me to kind of slide onto my back and then slide to my other side instead of trying to use my abs to roll my body from one side to the other. So that’s made my sleep less disrupted as well.
**General baby things: At both of my last two doctors appointments, they palpated my uterus and found that he’s head down. I’m not surprised by that based on how I sense his position. He seems to have two positions that he hangs out in, his head in my left side and his bum and feet in my right, and then head down with his feet in my right ribs. He moves a TON still but only seems to shift between those two positions. So we are feeling fairly confident that he will settle in head down and we won’t have to worry about him being breech (fingers crossed!). He’s also getting more and more engaged in my pelvis which I can DEFINITELY tell. It feels like he’s knocking on the door to get out sometimes and I am embracing the waddle.
**Braxton Hicks: I’ve been getting these lovely contractions quite often. I think I’ve been having them for at least a month and a half but in the last two weeks or so they’ve been happening more and more. They are never super painful just a little annoying. Sometimes they wake me up at night. They happen most often if I go walking and the temperature is more than 74 degrees. My body hates the heat apparently. But they definitely haven’t been an issue or a reason for concern.
As always, Kevin and I feel a sense of awe and gratitude surrounding this pregnancy and this belly. It’s incredible that there is a little person growing inside of me and that he is a part of us. We can’t wait to meet him and snuggle him. However, we are also really enjoying our last few weeks as a couple. We have some fun plans and are soaking up all of our “us” time as possible. It’s hard to believe that in approx. 6 weeks we’ll be parents (hopefully a little sooner)!!
