Pi-Day Date

Are you incredibly sick of hearing about our date nights? Me neither. :) Date night is such a special night for our relationship because it happens every week without fail, and it’s just safe, fun time. It’s consecrated just to being with each other and making each other happy. Most of the other days are filled with stressful experiences, whether they be work, school, worry about the future, or other responsibilities. But date night is always there for us, and it is always awesome.

Kevin put himself in charge of date night this week. Friday was Pi Day, which got his mental juices flowing, plus he wanted to one-up my super awesome play-date from a couple of weeks ago. He decided to have Science Night (since Pi is used in science too people, not just math!). We did some incredibly awesome science experiments, while Kevin explained what was happening and I zoned out because I was too busy freaking out like a small child listened intently.

First, the classic baking soda and vinegar.

We didn’t get any pictures of the middle science experiments of racing balloons taped to a straw on some string (Bernouli’s principle), and popping balloon with fire (Kevin’s a pyro…)

Here we see a great example of diffusion:

For the record, the cornstarch and water experiment is WAY too much fun. We literally played with our “slime” for at least 45 minutes. My hands were wrinkly and dyed blue by the end. It was awesome.

And of course, since it was Pi Day, we had to make a pie! This is just a super basic peach pie recipe that Kevin found online and it ended up being super yummy (even with canned peaches!). There was science involved here too, of course. We turned our oven into a reactor which used heat to bring about a chemical reaction and cook the pie (or so Kevin tells me). Science is delicious!

Thanks for the incredible date night my adorable scientist!
